Often, God will use ordinary people to fulfill His extraordinary purpose. God chose Amos to stand against the materialism, injustices, and idolatry that characterized the Samaria of his day. On the surface, his prophecy doesn’t sound like a happy formula for the good life. However, every condemnation he gives serves as an invitation, a cry for us to “seek God and live” (Amos 5:4). You’re invited to live assured, faithful, chosen, humble, justly, prayerful, and hopeful.

Amos is promoting the God life, and the God life is the good life!

Do you have trouble thinking of words to say to God when you pray? Are you afraid some emotions are too intense to express to God? Do you reach the end of a day only to realize you haven’t prayed at all? You’re not alone. Prayer is the way we relate to God, but sometimes it’s a struggle. Throughout God’s Word, we encounter many voices who teach us how to pray.

In this 7-session study, join with six beloved Bible teachers who will help you study prayers in the Bible that can inspire your own. You’ll learn that God welcomes your praise and lament, your thanksgiving and intercession. You’ll see examples of how to pray when you’re alone and when you’re gathered with others. Above all, you’ll notice there’s no one right way to pray. As you draw near to God through prayer, you’ll find your faith strengthened and your heart united to Christ.

1 John, Galatians, Ephesians

"On behalf of Shadow Mountain Women's Ministries, it has been a joy and privilege to make these videos, to share my love for the Word.  It's just me and my cell phone, but I hope they can encourage you to read and meditate on the Word, which has been life changing for me."  Debby Lennick, former Director of Women's Ministries

: Encouraging women to daily read or listen to the chapter of the week and meditate on it.

An on-your-own/do-it-yourself study, following the study guide and weekly email to help women be more confident reading and meditating in God’s Word.

Plan to talk with friends about what you read…text, phone, on a walk, in the car, in person, on social media, whatever will work for you!

The Theme: Read it, Think it, Talk it…and live it!

Why? Because we want to encourage you in personal Bible reading, meditation time and learn skills that give you Bible reading confidence. These skills can enrich learning in your Bible study classes, small group time, and looking up verses Pastor and other Bible teachers use in their messages.

  • Read it…Think it…Talk it… Read and/or listen to the chapter each day, use different versions.
  • Do so slowly, thinking, praying to understand, to remember what you read.
  •  Pray for Christ-like change, and talk about it. (Joshua 1:8, Deuteronomy 6:5-7)

Prepare your heart and mind

1.    Humbly pray before and after you read asking the Holy Spirit to guide you.

2.    Decide what to observe before reading.

 Plan to study with intention

1.    Read it - OBSERVE and learn from:

  a.  The people and places

b.  Key words and repeating words/phrases

c.   Statements about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit

d.  The main points, what is being said and why?

e.  What can I apply to my life?

2.    Think it

a.   Memorize a daily mini-memory verse, 1 to 5 words, OR a weekly verse/s.

b.  MEDITATE on the WORD, what it’s saying, what’s it means, and why. Pray to live more and more Christ-like, applying God’s Word.

3.    Talk it - Be intentional to talk about it with family, friends, a group, etc.

4.    Live-it

     a.  Daily spent time thinking about God’s Word; this is meditation.

b.  Daily confess sin and submit to His ways of doing things.

c.   Daily ask God to help share Christ with others, be His testimony.

d.  Daily, moment by moment ask God to guide your thoughts and actions.

"Meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” Joshua 1:8

“Talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.” Deuteronomy 6:5-7
