Small Groups

Wednesdays at 6:15pm

What a Small Group? A Middle School Small Group consists of 5-15 students, guided by 2-4 adult leaders. These groups are activity-oriented and organized by same-sex, same-grade clusters, often based on existing friendships. Above all, the group is Christ-centered, providing an environment where students can grow in their faith together.

A Small Group Should Offer: A Small Group provides a welcoming space for every student, ensuring a safe and fun environment where everyone feels accepted. It fosters loving and caring relationships with adult leaders who offer guidance and support. The group also encourages positive peer friendships that help students grow spiritually and emotionally. Students can expect to find biblical answers to their questions, engage in prayer for and with one another, and have the chance to receive Christ and deepen their relationship with Him.

Why Small Groups? At Shadow Youth, we believe Small Groups provide a welcoming, safe, and Christ-centered environment where students can seek biblical answers, receive prayer support, and develop a personal relationship with Christ.

These smaller settings foster meaningful conversations, encourage spiritual growth, and create a strong sense of community. In Small Groups, students build lasting relationships, grow in their faith, and are empowered to live out the gospel in their everyday lives.

We'd love to help you get connected to one of our small groups! To join, feel free to stop by our info table any Wednesday night, where one of our staff members will be there to greet you, gather your information, and help you find the perfect small group for your student. We believe small groups are a great way to build community, grow in faith, and support one another. If you'd prefer, you can also sign up online by filling out the MSM Small Group Sign-Up form above. We can’t wait to connect with you!

We’re so excited that you asked! We would love for you to join our Small Group Leader team and help us strengthen our partnership with parents as we raise up the next generation of disciples who seek, serve, and share Jesus. As a leader, you’ll play a pivotal role in guiding and mentoring students, creating a supportive and encouraging environment where they can grow in their faith. Together, we can raise up and equip the next generation to live out their calling and build a community that makes a lasting impact for Christ.

Baptism

Baptism is an important step of obedience in a Christian's faith journey (Matt. 28:18–20). It’s a way for believers to publicly identify with Christ, symbolizing His death, burial, and resurrection (Rom. 6:3–4). While baptism doesn’t bring salvation (Eph. 2:8–9), it represents the new life we have in Christ. If you have questions or want to learn more about baptism, we’re here to help guide you along the way.

  • Jesus set an example when he was baptized (Matt 3:16-17)
  • Jesus commended all believers to be baptized (Matt. 28:18-20). It is an act of obedience to do what Jesus said to do.
  • Baptism is symbol of our faith in Jesus- letting everyone know that you love, trust, and put your hope in Jesus Christ. Baptism does not get you to heaven (Eph. 2:8-9) (Luke 23:39-43) but symbolizes our new life, just like a wedding ring symbolizes that someone is married.
  • Baptism lets everyone know you are a Christian! Baptism gives you a chance to say to the church, “I want to love Jesus and I am going to need your help.” And it allows the church to acknowledge your decision and respond, “That's awesome! We are also trying to love Jesus too and we want to help you along the way!” It’s like a welcome ceremony into the family of the Church.

Baptism ceremonies are done differently all over the world (just like weddings and other ceremonies). Here is how we do it at Shadow Mountain:

  • We will pick a date that works for you to come and be baptized in one of the main church services. Students are usually baptized at Saturday Night service (Live at Five).
  • You will come to church before service, meet up with Pastor Chase and will be escorted to the Baptistry area. You can bring a parent with you and there will also be a helper (called Deacon or Deaconess) to guide you through the process.
  • There is a private changing room where you will change into a white robe (symbolizing being made clean and purified in Christ!).
  • During the service you will get into the water in the “baptismal” (it’s like a small warm pool). Pastor Chase will introduce you to the church and you will read your testimony. It will be written down to you don’t have to memorize it)
  • You will be dunked under the water (symbolizing death) and then lifted back out again (symbolizing new life in Christ).
  • Everyone will cheer with excitement because they are so happy for you!
  • And that’s it! You will be all wet, but the helper will give you towels and deal with the wet robe.
  • You will get a video of the baptism sent to your email and a baptism certificate signed by Pastor Chase.

  • Day, Time: Sunday, 12:15 pm - 1:15 pm
  • Location: Middle School Ministry Room - Generations Building

Student Leadership (MSL)

Middle School Leadership (MSL) is designed to provide connections, opportunities, and environments where you can grow as a leader. As a leader in MSL, you'll have the chance to work alongside our staff to make Middle School Ministry fun, welcoming, and excellent. You'll be challenged to develop your leadership skills by serving at least once a month in one of our service areas: First Impressions Team, Rec Team, Production (Tech), or Worship Band.

We also hold monthly meetings to help you bond with your team and deepen your leadership abilities. We’re excited to have you join us! Click the link below to sign up for the MSL team!

  • Ministry Coordinator Holly Abeel
  • Day, Time: Sunday, 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
  • Location: Room 213 - Generations Building

Resound Middle School Choir

Resound is Shadow Mountain’s worship choir for Middle School students in grades 6 through 8. This energetic, meaningful music ministry will challenge students in their musical gifts through voice and movement to impact the Kingdom of God. Resound will have the opportunity to participate in leading worship as well as various outreach and performance events. It is our hope that students will experience what it means to be servant leaders and to reach the world around them with the good news of Jesus Christ!
